Program Description:

Program Information

UAlbany students participating on programs administered by other 4-year SUNY campuses must be registered at UAlbany while studying abroad. All your credits and course equivalents will be managed through the Office of International Education located in Science Library G40.

UAlbany students studying on programs administered by SUNY Community or Technology Colleges or non-SUNY schools must follow the rules for transfer credit, and, if studying for a semester or longer, also apply for a Leave for Approved Study through the office of the Dean of Undergraduate Education.  We recommend that you explore the options available to you on programs administered by 4-year SUNY campuses first before selecting one of these alternatives.

If you are planning to participate on a program administered by a SUNY Community or Technology College, please use the application for that program instead of this one.  There is also a separate application for non-SUNY programs if this is what you have chosen.

Requirements

Consult the college or university that is administering your program for information about requirements and appropriate application procedures.

Academics

Students participating on programs administered by other 4-year SUNY campuses will remain registered at UAlbany and will be earning Albany credits automatically.  Students participating on other programs will be earning credits that must be accepted for transfer by UAlbany.

With proper approvals, credits earned while studying abroad may be counted toward your major, minor, or general education requirements in addition to counting toward the 120 credits required for graduation.

Students participating on programs administered by other 4-year SUNYcampuses should follow the procedures in the General Information Handbook and use the Preliminary Approval Form.  Students participating on programs adminstered by SUNY Community or Technology Colleges and non-SUNY schools should follow UAlbany's procedures for transfer credit.

General Education Information for UAlbany students: credits earned on this program will automatically satisfy the International Perspectives requirement. Three credits of foreign language study will satisfy the Foreign Language requirement. No additional approval is required for you to earn these General Education credits. You may file a request to have additional courses approved.

Support Services

UALbany hosts a general orientation session prior to your departure, and we are available to assist you at all times.  Program-specific questions should be answered by the administering campus and the staff at your overseas site.

Housing

Housing information is program-specific.  Please consult the campus that is administering your program for details.

Costs

If you are attending a program administered by another 4-year SUNY, you will be registered at UAlbany and will pay regular SUNY tuition here.  Otherwise, you will pay tuition as directed by the administering campus.  All other expenses will be paid either to the school which is administering your program or to the provider of the services you are purchasing.
