Program Description:
Spend your semester in Beijing, China, where history and modernity collide. This northeastern city is not only known for its ancient sites and architecture, but also for its growing modern landscape. As China’s capitol, it is the second largest city in China, and an epicenter for culture and education. With seven UNESCO world heritage sites, 91 colleges and universities, and a hub of technology, business, fashion, and art, Beijing is sure to have the experience you are looking for.

Whether you are new to studying the Chinese language, or are working hard to master it, Beijing Normal University (BNU), offers a diverse range of courses that cater to all language ability. While at your home away from home, stay in one of BNU’s five international student dorms, where a myriad of dining options and student organizations are available to you. BNU’s campus and dormitories are within the urban area of Beijing, a short distance from local and international eateries, and famous Chinese landmarks.

Academics Beijing Normal University offers a wide range of courses for undergraduate students. Prior knowledge of Chinese is recommended but not required.

If you have little to no background knowledge in Chinese, you have the option of taking Chinese language and related courses designed for international students. A placement test is administered to all international students who plan to take Chinese language classes before they register for classes, except for those with no language background in Chinese.

Beijing Normal University also offers many English-taught courses in select subject areas.  Some of the available courses are at the graduate level, so please pay close attention to the course details. Beijing Normal University suggests taking no more than 2 English-taught courses on top of any planned Chinese language courses.

*Please note that Beijing Normal University typically offers fewer courses in English during the Spring semester.

If you are fluent in Chinese, you can enroll in the regular university courses that are taught in Chinese. Beijing Normal University offers 55 undergraduate programs.

You are only allowed to take courses within one particular school or department at Beijing Normal University. However, no matter which department you choose, you can still take a Chinese language course.
