Northumbria International Summer School is offering five different courses in a variety of fields. Students can choose to take one of these 4 credit courses. Please click on the link to each course description to get more information about each course.
General Education Information for UAlbany students: credits earned on this program will automatically satisfy the International Perspectives requirement. Three credits of foreign language study will satisfy the Foreign Language requirement. No additional approval is required for you to earn these General Education credits. You may file a request to have additional courses approved.
The official residence for the Northumbria International Summer School 2018, Portland Green Student Village is Ouseburn Valley's destination for student living and Newcastle's largest student community. The student village provides modern purpose-built quality en-suite accommodation with central on-site services in secure and comfortable surroundings.
Portland Green is a short walk from Northumbria as well as Newcastle city center and the famous Quayside.

The University at Albany hosts a mandatory general orientation session on campus during the semester prior to participation on the program. As a United Kingdom program participant, you will also have an additional pre-departure session at UAlbany.
We know it can be overwhelming to arrive somewhere new for the first time and we want you to feel at home when you are here with us. Northumbria prides themselves on being knowledgeable and approachable and provide 24/7 support during your stay. Northumbria’s experienced staff are trained to the highest standards of excellence in customer service and will make sure you have the best possible time while providing a home away from home!
Freshman, sophomore, junior and senior students are eligible to participate.
Applications are welcome from students in all majors.
A minimum grade point average of 2.75 is required. If your GPA is below the level indicated, consult with us about whether or not you should apply.
Once UAlbany has received all of your required materials and have been recommended, you will have to submit a Northumbria International Summer School Experience application. More details will come after you have been recommended.
The Summer School includes field trips and an exciting social program to help you learn about the region while enjoying your summer and making friends from all over the world.

Newcastle upon Tyne welcomes around 50,000 students every single year, from over 130 countries; making it a fabulous multi-cultural city for younger people.
The city center is full of shops, restaurants, pubs and bars; while the student suburbs, such as Jesmond and Heaton, are home to vibrant pubs, historic music venues such as The Cluny, and cosy places to eat. Newcastle is big enough to constantly entertain and surprise, yet small enough to easily travel around on the underground Metro system, by bike, bus, or on foot.
The famous Quayside has amazing bars and restaurants with views of the iconic Millennium Bridge, Tyne Bridge, Sage Gateshead and BALTIC Arts Centre.
High street brands at Eldon Square and beautiful boutique shops – local and international markets along the Quayside and city centre. Europe’s largest shopping and leisure complex, The Metrocentre is just 10 minutes away.

The University at Albany has partnered with Northumbria University as of 2018. Over the summer, experience the city voted “best for students” four times in 6 years! Northumbria Univeristy is located in Newcastle upon Tyne in the North East of England. New Castle has been regularly named as a top city destination in travel guides, representing a vibrant mix of culture, the arts, shopping and nightlife. Whether its galleries, monuments or stunning Georgian architecture, to the endless choice of restaurants or the biggest shopping centre in the UK, there is something for everyone!

All courses taken abroad count towards UAlbany General Elective credits. Credits and grades will appear on your UAlbany transcript. You may file a request to have additional courses approved for equivalency as necessary.

External scholarships, listed on our website, are a good way to partially fund your study abroad experience. In addition, the Center for International Education and Global Strategy offers two scholarship programs for UAlbany students studying abroad on UAlbany or 4-year SUNY programs.

About the Program
Text about the University
Upon acceptance to the program, you will be required to attend a mandatory pre-departure orientation. During this time, you will have the opportunity to meet other program participants, discuss in-depth the details of your program, and prepare of the overall education abroad experience. The fall semester pre-departure orientation will be conducted the Saturday before the end of Spring UAlbany classes and in late November/early December for the spring term abroad. Upon arrival at University Name, you will attend a mandatory program orientation. This is an important and informative set of sessions organized by International Office of your host university.
UAlbany’s Office of Education Abroad staff assists you during the application process, in your preparation to travel abroad, and on-site if necessary. University Name's International Office staff serve as an experienced resource for resolving issues that you may encounter in while abroad.
