Our exchange affiliation with Yonsei University enables students to study in the heart of Seoul, South Korea and is intended for U.S. students interested in experiencing Korean daily life and culture while developing Korean language skills and pursuing coursework in English in diverse subject areas.
Sophomores, juniors, and seniors in all majors are eligible to participate. Students should have a minimum average of 2.5 or better. Korean language ability is not required. (Korean citizens may apply if they meet Yonsei's requirements for prior education in English.)
During the fall and spring semesters, students may choose from optional courses in beginning, intermediate, and advanced Korean language and a wide variety of lecture courses taught in English. Courses generally focus on these themes: East Asian Studies, International Relations, International Business, and Korean Language. Intensive Korean Language courses are available through the Korean Language Institute.
Students who speak, write, and converse fluently in Korean may enroll in regular university courses with Korean students. Students must enroll in at least 12 credits but normally earn 15-19 credits per semester.
Albany hosts a general orientation session on campus during the semester prior to participation on the program. You are encouraged to attend if all possible. The program in Korea begins with a required orientation program. A Korean language placement test is administered to all students except those with no knowledge of the Korean language, and course registrations are finalized.
Students typically live in on-campus housing facilities: International House I (newly renovated) and International House II (newly built). They are both located very close their classrooms and the Office of International Affairs. Therefore, residents would enjoy their living experience within convenient and comfortable environment and global community network.
Students are strongly recommended to apply for on campus housing right after receiving their admission confirmation number as available rooms are assigned on first-come, first-serve basis.
Students may choose to live off campus.
