Program Description:

UAlbany students studying on programs administered by non-SUNY schools must follow the rules for transfer credit, and, if studying for a semester or longer, also apply for a Leave for Approved Study through the office of the Dean of Undergraduate Education.

Academics

Students participating on programs administered by other 4-year SUNY campuses will remain registered at UAlbany and will be earning UAlbany credits automatically.  Students participating on SUNY Community/Technology Colleges or non-SUNY programs will be earning credits that must be accepted for transfer by UAlbany.   You might wish to examine options available to you through SUNY before agreeing to participate on a non-SUNY program.
For semester-length (fall/spring) NON-SUNY programs abroad, contact your academic advisor and the Undergraduate Dean’s Office for information about a Leave for Approved Study and transfer credit procedures. For NON-SUNY winter, summer, and/or 1 week spring break programs, you must follow the transfer credit procedures, but you do not need to apply for a leave of approved study.
We strongly encourage UAlbany students planning on participating on NON-SUNY programs to complete the Prior Approval for Transfer Credit Request form before you enroll in coursework at another institution to avoid loss of credit or other unintended consequences.

With proper approvals, credits earned while studying abroad may be counted toward your major, minor, or general education requirements in addition to counting toward the 120 credits required for graduation.  Credits earned through non-SUNY study abroad programs will not satisfy any of UAlbany's residency requirements.
