Upon acceptance into UOW’s Study Abroad and Exchange Program, you are required to submit an online study plan, proposing the classes you would like to take at UOW. You will receive instructions about how to enroll in classes (online) after your study plans have been assessed.
Please note: Different credit points at UOW are worth different amounts of SUNY credits. There is also a grade conversion system. You must register for the equivalent of at least 12 SUNY credits, with up to a maximum of 19 SUNY credits:

3 UOW credit points = 2 SUNY
4 UOW credit points = 3 SUNY
5 UOW credit points = 3 SUNY    
6 UOW credit points = 4 SUNY    
7 UOW credit points = 5 SUNY
8 UOW credit points = 6 SUNY

General Education Information for UAlbany Students

Credits earned on this program will automatically satisfy the International Perspectives requirement. Three credits of foreign language study will satisfy the Foreign Language requirement. No additional approval is required for you to earn these general elective credits.

Major/Minor Information for UAlbany Students

Courses may also satisfy major and minor requirements, upon approval by the department.

Transcript

All courses taken abroad count towards UAlbany General Elective credits. Credits and grades will appear on your UAlbany transcript. You may file a request to have additional courses approved for equivalency as necessary.

Housing

The University of Wollongong offers a guaranteed place in UOW accommodation to study abroad students.
The apartments and residence halls are spread out throughout the campus and city. Each one is a little different and you can compare the options online.
Other housing options are also available including homestays and private rentals off-campus. Learn more online here. 
To be guaranteed housing, you must apply through UOW by the posted deadline. 

Meals

Some housing options offer meal plans included and some do not. Check out the website for details.  There are many restaurants and grocery stores on and near campus for you to enjoy. 

Estimate of Costs

Australia: UOW Estimate of Costs (Non-Exchange) 

Note, there may be several tabs in the Estimate of Costs. Please be sure that you are reviewing the tab for your anticipated semester abroad.
Currently the only option for UOW is Non-Exchange (also referred to as "Study Abroad", as opposed to "exchange"). It is the same experience but includes additional fees listed on the cost sheet. 
It is possible that an exchange slot may become available if UOW sends more students to UAlbany.

Academic Requirements

Sophomores, juniors, and seniors are able to apply. Applications are welcome from students in all majors.
A minimum overall grade point average of 2.7 is required.

Participants enroll in regular university classes taught in English with Australian students.

Experiential Learning

Funding Opportunities

Most financial aid and academic awards will apply to semester programs.
External scholarships, listed on our website, are a good way to partially fund your study abroad experience. In addition, the Center for International Education and Global Strategy offers two scholarship programs for UAlbany students studying abroad on UAlbany or 4-year SUNY programs.

The semester calendar is different than many schools in the USA. Spring at UOW is from July to November and Autumn is from February to June. More information on key dates is online. Housing is available approximately 2 weeks before UOW orientation and for 2 weeks after exams end. 

About the Program

Program Orientations

Upon acceptance to the program, you will be required to attend a mandatory pre-departure orientation. During this time, you will have the opportunity to meet other program participants, discuss in-depth the details of your program, and prepare of the overall education abroad experience. The fall semester pre-departure orientation will be conducted toward the end of April/early May and in late November/early December for the spring term abroad.
Upon arrival at UOW, you will attend a mandatory program orientation. This is an important and informative set of sessions organized by International Office of your host university.

Support Services

UAlbany’s Office of Education Abroad staff assists you during the application process, in your preparation to travel abroad, and on-site if necessary. UOW's International Office staff serve as an experienced resource for resolving issues that you may encounter in while abroad.
