UAlbany’s Bridge the GAP Scholarship is an education abroad scholarship that aims to diversify the student population that studies, interns, and researches abroad, while also promoting access by decreasing the financial burden of this enriching international experience.
Several factors are considered, including your education abroad program location, program length, financial need, and the strength of your scholarship essay.
The Bridge the GAP Scholarship is open to UAlbany students
participating in a qualifying SUNY study abroad program.
The Bridge the GAP Scholarship funds, regardless of the recipient(s), are to be used for non-tuition
education abroad expenses (e.g.: Education Abroad Differential, Education Abroad Program Charge, mandatory fees, housing, meals, living expenses, books, travel expenses).
Eligibility
- UAlbany student participating on a UAlbany program managed through the Center for International Education and Global Strategy or 4-year SUNY campus study abroad program.
- Minimum 2.0 GPA
Requirements
- Personal Statement
- Unofficial transcript
- Financial Verification form (completed by financial aid, no student action necessary)
While Abroad
Bridge the GAP Scholarship recipients are expected to share
at least 3 photos of their study abroad experience (i.e. cultural activities, field trips, campus photos, popular locations, pictures wearing a UAlbany t-shirt, pictures holding a UAlbany flag, etc.) per week on UAlbany’s Education Abroad social media pages. Please use the hashtags #UAlbanyBridgeTheGAP, #UAlbany, #UAlbanyAbroad, #GreatDanesAbroad, and #UnleashGreatness, to share your photos on Instagram and Facebook. If your Instagram account is private, please use Facebook to share your photos via Facebook Messenger or tag @ualbanyabroad. If you do not have a social media account, or will not have access to the internet while abroad, please email your photos to Carmeisha Huckleby at

Photo Guidelines:
- No high-risk activities
- No drinking/smoking
- No selfies
- No excessive skin
Upon Return
- Bridge the GAP recipients are expected to promote study abroad opportunities in meaningful ways upon return, as indicated in the personal statement.
