Program Description:

Academics

Academic Program

The School of Social Welfare and the School of Public Health at UAlbany are honored to welcome students and faculty from EWHA Womans University for a Winter Study Tour focusing on new challenges in substance abuse. This five-day training will involve seminars with several experts and visits to various agencies. In addition, participants will be able to take explore many of the cultural sites in Albany and the surrounding cities. Some of the topics will include:
  • Characteristics of Substance Abuse and its Impacts on Youth, Adults, Women, and Older Adults
  • Emerging Trends in Drug and Substance Abuse
  • Effective Social Work Strategies for Intervention
  • Responses from Public Agencies and Media
  • Substance Abuse Research Utilizing Big Data, Including AI and Deep Learning
  • Outpatient and Residential Treatment Options
  • Legal Responses, such as Drug Court and Treatment Orders

About our Faculty

UAlbany's School of Social Welfare faculty ranks in the top 5% nationwide in terms of research productivity. Faculty at the School of Social Welfare are leading research in diverse areas such as child welfare, veterans services, aging, integrative mind-body-spirit practice, mental and behavioral health, health disparities, and evidence-based interventions. They engage in community partnerships to conduct research that advances social justice at individual, organizational, and societal levels.

UAlbany's School of Public Health conducts cutting-edge research that leads to improvements in population health locally, nationally, and internationally. The breadth of the School's research is wide, ranging from basic research in cancer genetics to applied obesity prevention using the principles of community-based participatory research.  This research is enhanced by their unique 37-year partnership with the New York State Department of Health.

To study at UAlbany as a visiting student your home university must select you and recommend you to UAlbany. Questions about the terms of the agreement between your university and UAlbany should first be addressed to your university.

Entry Requirements

If you are not eligible to participate in the ESTA visa waiver program, a visa may be required. Please contact your home University for more information regarding the visa application process.
